FOR A GREAT CAUSE
Children are the most visible victims of under-nutrition.
The Lighthouse for Recovery Ministries has recently partnered with
NO KID HUNGRY! Share our Strength and Food Network
to promote and alleviate the plight of hunger in our nation's children with their
Bake Sale for NO KID HUNGRY! events.
We are participating, through our new online and special order bakery, Those Precious Moments, in the Bake Sale for NO KID HUNGRY! throughout 2015 and beyond.
OUR GOAL IS $40,000.00+ IN THE NEXT THREE YEARS!
"There are tremendous needs to provide our children with the skills and educational opportunities to promote a "Job Ready Workforce" for the future. Our children are the business and civic leaders of tomorrow and it is up to all individuals to see that children are given the opportunity to excel regardless of economic backgrounds. These children are Alabama's (and our nation's) "greatest natural resources" and anyone can reach for the stars if given the opportunity and guidance."

New Children's Services Foundation Set to Open
We will be hosting bake sales, both online and locations within our community, Halloween and Christmas Bake Sales with a few more events being scheduled such as The Special Birthday Bake Sale and Giving Thanks at Thanksgiving.
This is an ongoing commitment and we will be donating our product lines of mouth watering flavored fudge lines, mini cakes, cupcakes, cookies and muffins to each event and baked treats and desserts baked special for the beloved dog in your life. (My seven dogs have been my taste testers for all doggie baked goods - and they haven't turned them down yet!)

Bake Sale for No Kid Hungry, presented by Domino Sugar and C&HSugar, is a national fundraising initiative that encourages people to host bake sales to end child hunger in their communities.
Funds raised by nationwide Bake Sales for No Kid Hungry support Share Our
Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, which is ending childhood hunger in this
nation by ensuring all children get the healthy food they need, every day. By
connecting kids in need with nutritious food and teaching their families how to
cook healthy, affordable meals, the No Kid Hungry campaign surrounds children
with healthy food where they live, learn and play.
Share Our Strength’s focus is on
long-term change – the difference between just feeding a child today and making
sure that children in the United States never go hungry. Since 1984, Share Our
Strength has raised and invested more than $376 million in the fight against
hunger —including more than $10 million through Bake Sale for No Kid Hungry

Childhood Hunger: The Problem
Child hunger is one of the most serious and
pertinent issues faced by Alabama today. In the United States, one in
six children suffer from not having enough to eat.
In Alabama, that
number is greater than one in four. Alabama has long struggled to break
the cycle of poverty. The evidence is overwhelmingly present throughout
the state from the rolling hills of the Black Belt to the city lights of
Birmingham. With the widespread pandemic that
is poverty, further systemic issues arise such as illiteracy and
political decay. These issues, however, do not have immediate solutions,
but are rather something that must be gradually eradicated.
Hunger, specically child hunger, also has a direct
correlation to poverty in Alabama and the United States as a whole. In
fact, the number of people living below the poverty line in Alabama,
about 24 percent of the population, is almost the exact same as the
number of households that have reported not having enough food to feed
their families since 2009.
should not be looked at as a statistic. Hungry houses mean hungry
families. Hungry parents, elderly, children, infants. Hungry employees
and employers. Hungry students, hungry teachers. Hunger does not
discriminate against its victims. The fact of the matter is too many
people in Alabama are struggling with hunger. Unlike the other more
systemic issues, hunger is something that can be combated immediately
with immediate results. The solution is simple and it starts with you.
