It is not even Thanksgiving yet, but blessings have abounded for The Lighthouse for Recovery Ministries Christmas Programs this year.
Regions Bank Corporate Banking Department, in Birmingham, AL, has graciously chosen our organization yesterday to sponsor donations for our Third Annual "Operation Santa Claus US Army" holiday program for our troops that are stationed overseas at a time when their families and loved ones are gathering to celebrate Christmas in their homes with thoughts of these brave men and women in prayers.
As an Army Veteran myself, what better way to honor our military and let them know just how much they mean to each and every one of us "back home" and their families than Santa delivering boxes of goodies to 2000 human and canine soldiers to provide them with Christmas cheer as they will be so far from home and hearth this year.
With the support and gathering abilities of our newest Secret Santa, we will be able to provide even more boxes on our Santa's list and I have been told that by Regions Head Elf, Terri Crowe, that their Santa Elves have already begun to collect items for our holiday program! HOHOHO!
For the past eight years, I have been the area coordinator for the Marine Family Foundation's Operation Santa USMC for the State of Alabama. I really enjoyed collecting, wrapping and mailing Christmas Care Stockings to Marines stationed overseas at the holidays.
So three years ago, I decided it is only fair that I take this same dedication and commitment to my branch of the military - GO ARMY! - and provide Care Packages to be mailed to our U.S. Army troops who will be spending their holidays abroad defending our right to be free here in America!
My old units, The 20th Special Forces and 82nd Airborne (Screaming Eagles), will still be a vital part of the logistics of this program as they have been in prior years and they are really excited!
Many people in the United States know at least one person who is in the military or has family in the military. Independent of political viewpoint, supporting our Troops is something that we all, as Americans, should do. These brave men and women are risking their lives every day all over the world to protect the rights and freedoms that our country has provided us.
Collect items for our Christmas care package by hosting a care package drive at your workplace, school, organization or place of worship!
You don’t need to know a member of the military to collect items for us to ship. The troops love receiving instant coffee, personal hygiene items, prepaid phone cards, stationery, jerky, and more.
